As far back as he can remember, Dr. Dolgin says, "I've always wanted to be a doctor."
His own early bouts of chronic asthma may have spurred his initial interest. Since age 8, Dr. Dolgin was administered inhalers, injections, antihistamines, bronchodilators, and frequently several potent classes of antibiotics. He resolved his 30 year health problems primarily through osteopathic treatment, homeopathic treatment, and dietary changes. It has been over 25 years since Dr. Dolgin has taken any allopathic (conventional) medication.
His goal is to offer his patients a branch of medicine designed to activate the immune system to fight disease and set the body in motion to repair itself (i.e. Osteopathic Manual Medicine).
His undergraduate years in college further demonstrate his interests in the life sciences and determination to qualify for medical school: BS degree in Zoology Summa Cum Laude, Ohio University, Athens Ohio in 1976; Graduate Studies in Exercise Physiology, Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio in 1977-'78. In 1982, Dr. Dolgin was awarded the degree of DO, doctor of osteopathic medicine, at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Athens, Ohio, receiving the Osteopathic Achievement Award for excellence in the application of osteopathic principles. He refers to this experience as "the most grueling period of my life."
Dr. Dolgin's primary interest throughout medical school remained in manual medicine. But, he first needed to fulfill his obligations as a fully licensed physician and assumed a position as a medical intern at Brentwood Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. He finished his required duties in "allopathic" training: perform surgery; treat medical and surgical emergencies; monitor patients in intensive care; perform deliveries in the obstetrics department, etc.
After his internship, Dr. Dolgin had the opportunity to refine his skills in Cranial Osteopathy as Assistant Director at the prestigious Osteopathic Center for Children in San Diego, California (1983-1985). Families flew in from different parts of the country to have their children treated at the center.
In 1985, Dr. Dolgin established a private practice in Santa Monica where it soon reached capacity and he acquired a waiting list of patients. He was later fortunate to find several outstanding physicians so that he could insure all of his patients could get treated as needed.
Dr. Dolgin's professional commitments have included: President of the Cranial Academy; Chairman of the Publications Committee of the American Academy of Osteopathy; editor of the Cranial Academy Basic Instruction Manual for Osteopathy in the Cranial Field; Faculty member of the Sutherland Cranial Teaching Foundation; Faculty member of the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific; Course Director for the Cranial Academy; Chairman of the Education Committee of the Cranial Academy.
He has lectured on osteopathy to physicians and surgeons in Belgium, Russia, Italy, England, France, and throughout the United States.
